ACUPUNCTURE

Acupuncture is an effective, natural, and increasingly popular form of health care. It takes a holistic approach to understanding normal function and disease processes, and focuses as much on the prevention of illness, as on the treatment.

When healthy, an abundant supply of qi (pronounced chee) or “life energy,” flows through the meridians (a network of invisible channels through the body). If the flow of qi in the meridians becomes blocked, or there is an inadequate supply of it, then the body fails to maintain harmony, balance, and order. Thereafter, disease or illness usually follows. This can result from stress, overwork, poor diet, disease pathogens, and other lifestyle factors. It becomes evident to TCM practitioners, through observable signs of bodily dysfunction. Quay Health’s Acupuncturist, Darren Geer, looks carefully for these signs of health and dysfunction, paying particular attention not only to the presenting signs and symptoms, but also to the medical history, general constitution, the pulse and tongue.

Acupuncture treatment involves the insertion of fine, sterile needles into specific sites (acupuncture points), along the body’s meridians to clear energy blockages and encourage the normal flow of qi through the individual. Darren may also stimulate the acupuncture points using other methods, including moxibustion and cupping, in order to re-establish the flow of qi.
Quay Health’s acupuncturist will provide you with:

  • Drug-free pain relief.
  • Effective treatment for a wide range of acute and chronic ailments.
  • Support for infertility and during IVF treatment.
  • Treatment for reproductive and obstetric disorders.
  • Treatment for the underlying cause of disease and illness, as well as the symptoms.

  • Assistance in the prevention against disease and illness, as well as the maintenance of general well-being.

MASSAGE THERAPY

Whether you are stressed out, have exercised too hard, or just stiff and sore, our massage therapist can help you. Massage has been used since the dawn of man to help ease pain and suffering of muscular and soft tissue tension.  Relax in our quiet private massage room and stay for a cup of herbal tea afterwards to help you return to the day.  We use premium massage oils and creams, clean fluffy towels, warm blankets and hot towels after your massage to remove all oil allowing you to return to work comfortably.

The two main types of massage are relaxation and remedial massage:

A relaxation massage helps de-stress and loosen up your body. It’s great for those who have been working hard or feel like they need some downtime. The treatment consists of flowing strokes, kneading, and gentle manipulations of the muscles, performed at your chosen pressure. It’s a pain free way to relax both your muscles and your mind.

A remedial massage is great if you have particular muscle tension or chronic pain. The treatment may involve deep tissue work, for short periods of time, however the results are definitely worth it! Conditions such as sciatica, carpal tunnel, stiff necks, headaches, sports injuries, and many more issues, can be eased with this treatment.

Quay Health’s massage therapists John Tran and Darren Geer, use a combination of a number of different therapies, including the Chinese technique of cupping, hot stones and trigger point work.

PHYSIOTHERAPY

With over 25 years experience in physiotherpay manual therapy techniques, Jo also specialises in using Fascial Manipulation© by Luigi Stecco, an Italian physiotherapist who has founded a treatment method that incorporates all parts of the body and relates it to past injuries/illness/surgeries etc, to determine where in the Fascial System there may be restrictions and blockages.

Fascia is soft tissue and it covers every muscle cell, every muscle and every organ in the body and connects our head with our extremities. Muscles connect one bone to another to move a joint(s), but the fascia transmits this load to other areas of the body to aid in the timing, force and control of complex movements. If the fascia is restricting a muscle’s/organ’s functions the movement is affected and often exercise alone cannot remove this block.

According to Fascial Manipulation© theory an injury/illness in one part of the body can be affecting areas further away and creating a second area of dysfunction. Fascial Manipulation© works on the musculo-skeletal system but also indirectly on the visceral system. It works quickly with musculo-skeletal injuries with improvement being perceived immediately if the right points have been treated and with the internal dysfunctions, the results may take a week or more to become obvious but a sense of relaxation and well being should be perceived immediately if the correct points have been treated.

Fascial Manipulation© can be used on any muscle/joint/neural/sports or work related injury as per traditional physiotherapy and chiropractic but also may assist with internal dysfunctions like reflux/recurrent coughs/bronchitis/recurrent hoarseness/cystitis/some menstrual issues/heaviness in the limbs/coldness or heat in the limbs/arrhythmias etc.
